From July 31 to August 14, 2025, the International Research and Training Center for Science and Technology Strategy (CISTRAT) of Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED) successfully held the 12th International Training Workshop on Science and Technology Innovation Policy Research and Methods in Belt and Road Countries. This training workshop recruited a total of 22 participants from 15 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America, which is the largest number of participating countries in CISTRAT's history.

With the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, the training workshop was jointly organized by Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED) and Hebei Institute of Science and Technology Innovation Strategy, with the theme of "AI policies and practices". Experts from international organizations, research institutions, national tech leader enterprises and think tanks were invited to give lectures to the trainees. During their stay in Beijing, trainees went to Didi, Xiaomi EV Factory and Zhongguancun Low-altitude Technology Industry Innovation Center for research and study. During their stay in Hebei, trainees went to Xiong'an New Area and Baoding to investigate topics such as green smart city construction, photovoltaic equipment manufacturing, and intelligent car manufacturing.

After the training, the trainees said that the training provided a good learning and exchange platform for developing countries, and the lectures taught had guidance and reference significance for the formulation of science and technology policies of their countries. It is hoped that CISTRAT can continue to play an active role in building an international scientific and technological exchange platform for developing countries, and sharing China's experience and wisdom in artificial intelligence policy formulation and implementation, artificial intelligence governance, and artificial intelligence to promote scientific research.
