UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Nairobi Visits CASTED

December 8,2023

On November 29, Yoslan Nur, Head of the UNESCO Natural Sciences Sector (a.i.) at the UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya, visited CASTED to discuss future cooperation. CASTED staff from the Office of Think Tank Operation and Research Management, the Institute of Science and Technology Theory, the Institute of Frontier Science and Technology, and the Institute of International Science and Technology Relations participated in the discussion.

Dr. Yoslan Nur first made a report on the theme of "UNESCO's Strategy and Initiative to Promote Science, Technology and Innovation in Africa" for the participants. He introduced the basic situation of the African continent, including geographical environment, cultural background, economic development level, etc., and introduced UNESCO's specific initiatives and main obstacles in promoting regional development. At last, he made suggestions on promoting the development of science and technology in Africa in the future.

In the later discussion, CASTED participants said that Dr. Yoslan's report helped to further understand the current situation of scientific and technological development in Africa, and provided an important reference for promoting the cooperation between CASTED and African institutions. As an important participant in the Belt and Road Initiative, the African continent has always been concerned about and supported the implementation of the Belt and Road Science and Technology Action Plan. It is hoped that in the future, we will continue to strengthen scientific and technological training and scientific and technological exchanges among African countries through the UNESCO Category II Center of CASTED, and promote the Belt and Road scientific and technological cooperation to achieve more results.
