October 19,2018

On October 15, 2018, the Institute of Science, Technology and Society invited Dr. Zhang Yueyue, an associate professor at Kent University, UK, to give a lecture titled Worldwide Scientific Research and the Voice of China. Dr. Zhang introduced the meaning of the concept of “worldwide” scientific research and the difference between “worldwide” and “globalized”, and pointed out that it is important for China to integrate into the “worldwide” trend of science and technology and that Chinese S&T workers should make the “voice of China” heard in the field of S&T ethics and its social impact, and take part in the shaping of world ethics and values in S&T frontiers. After the lecture, the participants had a heated discussion on the problems China currently faces in making its voice heard in the area of science and technology and the importance of participation in the formulation of international standards on scientific research.
