The Belt and Road seminar of the 2017 Pujiang Innovation Forum was held on September 24 under the theme of “To Create the Belt and Road Innovation Community: Path and Policy”. The seminar was co-chaired by CASTED Executive President Lin Xin and Vice President Wu Yishan. Zhu Xuehua, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, delivered a keynote speech on the seminar.

CASTED invited the following speakers to introduce the science and technology innovation progress, needs, vision, models and policies of their countries based on their studies of the vision of the “Belt and Road” Initiative: Wang Yiwei, Professor at the School of International Relations of Renmin University of China and an expert on the Belt and Road Initiative, S. Ahmadreza Alaei, Director of the Iranian Vice President’s Office of Science and Technology Exchange, Yanaki Boyanov Stoilov, Member of the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, H.R.H Prince Saud Alhassan Saud Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Galimkair Mutanov, President of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Dato Ir. Lee Yee Cheong, Director of the International Science, Technology and Innovation Center of Malaysia, Zhang Yuguo, Senior Vice President for Government Affairs at RELX Group (parent company of Elsevier).

CASTED also invited Xu Haoqing, Director General of the Department of Economic & Technological Experts of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Yang Min, Deputy Director of the Research Center for Eco-environmental Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Irina Semykina, Director of the Institute of Electric Power at Kuzbass State Technical University, Russia, Niu Xinmin, President of Xinjiang Academy of Science and Technology for Development, Suresh Babu, Deputy General Manager of China International Sino-India Science and Technology Innovation Cluster, Wang Delu, President of Beijing Great wall Enterprise Institute, and Yuan Yuren, Assistant President of the National University of Singapore, to the seminar. They shared the practices and specific cases in promoting scientific and technological innovation cooperation under the Belt and Road, as well as the considerations and concrete actions of various countries in the areas of policy and people-to-people exchanges, joint laboratories, technology transfer centers, and science park building.

Chen Baoming, Director of the CASTED Institute of Comprehensive Development, delivered a keynote speech titled “Technological Innovation Cooperation under the Conditions of Open Integration”. He shared the view that the road to innovation is a new development of the “Belt and Road Initiative”, and it is necessary to actively adapt to the global trend of scientific and technological innovation, and set the course for future international cooperation based on the innovation needs of countries along the Belt and Road.
