CASTED Received Brazilian Delegation

On April 15, 2015, CASTED Vice President Wang Fenyu received and met with a 14-member Brazilian delegation led by Prof. Anna Jaguaribe, Deputy Director of the Institute for Brazil-China Studies (IBRACH) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, with other members of the delegation including representatives of the Center for Integration and Development Studies (CINDES), Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and Brazilian Innovation Agency (FINEP). The Brazilian delegation made the visit for the purpose of getting informed of China’s relevant policies and practices in such aspects as S&T plan formation, S&T system reform, technology forecasting, promotion of strategic emerging industries, and S&T financing.

During the meeting, Sun Fuquan, member of the Academy Affairs Committee of CASTED, welcomed the delegation and introduced the CASTED representatives attending the meeting, and Wang Fenyu gave a general introduction to CASTED. Zhang Huanzhao, of the Institute of Comprehensive Development, Li Yan, of the Institute of Science and Technology Systems and Management, Chen Zhi, of the Institute of Science and Technology for Industrial Development, Zhang Mingxi, of the Institute of Science and Technology Investment, and representatives of the Department of Research Management, also attended the meeting, and briefed the Brazilian delegation on the implementation of China’s S&T Plan for the 12th Five-Year Plan Period and the preparation of the S&T Plan for the 13th Five-Year Plan Period, China’s innovation system and S&T system reform, China’s technology forecasting methodology and organization, development of China’s strategic emerging industries (especially information technology) and key research projects, and China’s pro-innovation financial policies and instruments, respectively. The two sides had detailed discussions on a number of specific issues. In closing, Prof. Jaguaribe introduced the preparation of the Brazil-China Innovation Dialogue to be held in October in Brazil, and invited CASTED to the event.
