115th Report in 2010: Proposals for Strengthening Development Research of Natural Gas Hydrates in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Permafrost
Abstract: Due to its little pollution, large reserves, wide distribution, high energy density, Natural gas hydrate (NGH) has been known as a future strategic energy to succeed and attracted the world’s high attention. Although NGH samples have been achieved in the South China Sea and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau permafrost, the technology gap of China remains large compared to the NGH dominant countries. In view of the lower cost, higher safety factor and smaller impact on the environment of exploiting NGH in land than in sea, this paper proposes China to firstly choose the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau permafrost to deploy the development of NGH, and to take some measures to strengthen its development research, such as making national plan, increasing investment, and establishing R&D base.
