18th Report in 2010: Present Situation in Health and Medical Services in Post-Quake Wenchuan

Abstract: Physical health situation in the disaster area is stable and roughly comparable pre-quake. Quality of professional mental consultations is to be improved as some residents are still suffering from noticeable mental health problems. Medical insurance covers 94.0% of the population with 92.9% of rural population participated in the “New Rural Cooperative Medical System.” Although accessibility and availability of medical services are improved substantially, quality of the services is still to be enhanced. In addition, most of the pregnant women in urban and rural areas have medical checks during pregnancy and deliver their babies in hospitals.
