2011-03-11

Abstract: Improving public awareness of and their ability to prevent H1N1 flu are important measures in preventing the flu. Based on analysis of survey data on people living in post-quake Wenchuan in August this year, the article studies the influencing factors on public awareness of the flu. The survey finds that 30% of the people living in the area are completely unaware of the HIN1 and substantial amount of people among the 30% do not know how to prevent the flu. Influencing factors of the awareness include age, educational level, economic conditions, living conditions, and accesses to information. For preventing spread of the flu, the article suggests to improve public awareness of and their ability to prevent H1N1 by effective providing social vulnerable groups like rural residents, seniors, and people with less education with more information on the flu.
